Planning a garden, large or small, from scratch or around existing plants? Discover the joys and benefits of gardening with California native plants: water conservation and low maintenance, plus year-round color, fragrance, butterflies and birdsong. An assortment of native plants will be displayed. Useful handouts, a resource list and California poppy seeds will be provided.

Lili Singer wears many garden hats. She is a horticulturist, educator, garden consultant and garden writer. She heads the Thursday Garden Talks at the LA County Arboretum & Botanic Garden in Arcadia and recently became Special Projects Coordinator for the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wildflowers and Native Plants in Sun Valley, CA.

In past lives, Lili worked in nurseries, including her parents’ business, which specialized in rare succulents. She published and edited two award-winning periodicals, The Southern California Gardener and The Gardener’s Companion. And for more than a decade, she hosted “The Garden Show,” a live call-in radio program on KCRW-fm.

Lili was named 1997 Horticulturist of the Year by the Southern California Horticultural Society. She also received the 1994 Mildred E. Mathias Life Achievement Award from the Friends of the Virginia Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills.
