HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Pasadena City Hall shared honors last night with Santa Fe Station,
Snyder Diamond Store and Pinocchio’s Pizza, among others, in receiving a
Pasadena Historic Preservation award.
The fifth annual awards program honors the best examples of
preservation, rehabilitation and maintenance of historic properties.
The awards were presented by the city’s Historic Preservation
Commission, which acts as an advisory body to Pasadena City Council,
proactively seeking to raise awareness of preservation as a desired
land-use option through development review and nomination of individual
landmarks and landmark districts.
Pasadena has long been recognized for its impressive variety of
architectural styles and historic buildings, with many designed by
notable architects such as Greene & Greene, Myron Hunt, Wallace Neff,
Sylvanus Marston, Richard Neutra and others.
Historic preservation is one of the city’s defining characteristics,
with more than 1,000 properties in the National Register of Historic
Places, more than 50 works by Greene & Greene, 16 local landmark
districts, and 80 individually designated landmarks.
The city’s Historic Preservation Awards occur during a nation-wide
observance of Preservation Month. “This Place Matters" is the theme of
the month-long celebration, which is sponsored by the National Trust for
Historic Preservation.
