civic center mid town site map City-funded project for design services and preparation of Concept Plan and Design Development documents for public improvements in the Civic Center District including:  redesign of Centennial Square/Holly Street, streetscape improvements including:  pedestrian lighting, new and infill street trees, tree grates, benches, trash receptacles, district signage, paving, historic building lighting, public art and fountains.  The project's primary focus is to facilitate improvements along Garfield Avenue, Holly Street and Colorado Boulevard.

Project Approvals


City/PCDC approved Refined Concept Plan document on April 9, 2001.   Design Development Plan approved by Council with conditions on December 15, 2003.  Water feature element design deferred for consideration until 2006-2007 (in conjunction with MTA/TEA-21 Grant implementation).  On August 13, 2007, City Council approved a change to the approved species, size and spacing of the replacement trees on Holly Street (between Marengo & Garfield Avenue) to the Engelmann Oak, Quercus engelmannii, and found that the paving pattern design and materials for the Civic Auditorium forecourt complies with the design standards of the approved plan.
 

Status


Contracts for the $2.8 million MTA/TEA-21 public improvements project Grant have been approved. Engineering Design for selected elements of the approved plan will be begin in 2008 with construction to commence in 2009.
