The Pasadena Police Department is sponsoring a free Kids Safety Academy beginning Saturday, March 6.

Taught by Pasadena police officers, firefighters and other city of Pasadena personnel, the classes for children ages 6 to 12 will be held on seven consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at various Pasadena locations. Parents and guardians are required to attend with their children.

“The intent of the academy is to teach our youngsters what to do and how to do it in case of emergencies that can occur in everyday life,” said Interim Police Chief Christopher Vicino. “As much as we don’t like to think something bad can happen, we want our kids to know what to do if something ever does.”

The class covers personal safety, bicycle safety, water safety, fire, crime prevention and more with age-appropriate conversations.

Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until Feb. 19 or the class is full. For more information and an application visit www.cityofpasadena.net/police/communityservices or call (626) 744-7650.
